Water Quality Assessment
Water quality is the key to the successful management of any pond or fishery.
These essential tests include dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, temperature, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and alkalinity.
Assessments identify risks like oxygen crashes, pollution, algae blooms, fish kills, toxicity, fish stress, often requiring equipment such as digital meters, test kits for phosphorus, and turbidity monitoring.
Some of the Key Components of Water Quality Analysis:
- Dissolved Oxygen (DO): Often considered the most critical factor, measured to prevent fish stress & ultimately death.
- Temperature: Affects metabolic activity and fish health.
- pH: Determines the acidity or alkalinity of the water; extreme levels can damage gills.
- Ammonia (NH 3) / Nitrite (NO2 ): Measured to monitor nitrogenous waste levels, which can be highly toxic to fish & aquatic life.
- Nitrate (NO3) Measured as the end product of the nitrogen cycle & an indicator for primary production (algae blooms & weed growth)
- Hardness (GH) and Carbonate Hardness (KH): Indicates mineral content and the water's buffering capacity to stabilize pH.
- Turbidity/Suspended Solids: Indicates water clarity and potential pollutant loading.
How it Works
The Water Quality Assessment requires a sample of no less than 500ml being sent to us over night. The sample will be tested as soon as it arrives at the office. It is advisable to send samples Monday to Wednesday to avoid weekends due to time lag in the sample being tested.
The results are then emailed to the client with the tested levels and an interpretation of what has been recorded.

If algae blooms are suspected, it would be advisable to have a Quantitive Algae Survey carried out Quantitative Algae Survey
Alternative – Personal Testing
The Water Quality Assessment can be carried out onsite at a cost of £40.00 per hour charged from the time of departure from the office to the time of return.
